Emulsified wax is a cold wax in a liquid emulsion. It is water based, non – toxic resist that is liquid at room temperature. Heating is not required. It is cream coloured so easy to see on the fabric as it is applied. Emulsified wax is for direct application techniques only and works best on silk fabrics or very light weight cottons, as they tend not to penetrate through to the backside of heavier cloth. Many applicators can be used such as squeeze bottles, brushes, sponges and rollers. Emulsified wax may be thickened with resist thickener for processes like screen printing on fine silk.

Emulsified wax may be coloured with the addition of dye. If the dye is in liquid solution, the emulsified wax may require thickening for normal application. Removal is easy with a warm water rinse.

With storage emulsified wax may become lumpy. To restore smoothness, simply strain through a fine sieve or cheesecloth.
