Description
This round AA-grade white moonstone cabochon presents an ethereally transparent, watery milk-white color and the signature adularescence moonstone is known for. Consider setting this stone with a dark or black underlay, or in a highly oxidized setting; a dark background will effectively bring out its glow.
Moonstone is a member of the feldspar-group mineral orthoclase and features an iridescent sheen called "adularescence." Some believe that, to be correctly called moonstone, the makeup of a given stone is less crucial than the presence of the characteristic adularescence. In true moonstone, however, this characteristic is due to the presence of albite inclusions within the stone and the reflection of light from the crystalline structure. Ancient Romans believed moonstone to be rays of moonlight transformed into a solid form.

How To Set Cameos and Cabochons
Here's a tip on how to set flat-backed stones such as cabochons and cameos. When setting these stones, it’s important to keep the gem level as you set the stone.
1 The bottom of the stone will sit in flat bezel or ledge; make sure that the setting is clean of debris and is perfectly flat and level.
2 Watch the stone as you adjust the prongs or bezel in case the moving metal should shift the stone.
3 Correct any problems right away.
